Funding scheme for Glenelly farmers opens

A FUNDING scheme for farmers whose land was devastated by the 2017 floods in the Glenelly Valley has been opened.

The Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs is now accepting applications for a share of the £2.7 million support scheme.

Those affected by the floods and who may be eligible for the funding have until August 12 next to apply.

Farmers who applied for a Force Majeure when their businesses were impacted by severe flooding and landslides on 22 and 23 August 2017 can now apply for the one-off financial payment.

West Tyrone SDLP MLA, Daniel McCrossan, said the floods had caused widespread hardship for the rural communities in the Glenelly Valley.

“This has been a long time coming but I’m pleased the scheme is finally active. I urge everyone affected by the floods in August 2017 to apply,” he added.

“There is only a fortnight to get your application in. You can find more details of the scheme at https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/services/daera-online-service
